Delegates Rebel Against Harris Nomination, Demand Immediate Action on Gaza

The Democratic National Convention is turning out to be a real eye-opener! While the party was busy trying to rally around Kamala Harris as their presidential candidate, a wave of discontent has hit them square in the face. During a symbolic roll call vote, a whopping 44 delegates refused to fully back Harris, voting “present” instead. Why? Because they’re fed up with how the Democrats are handling the situation in Gaza.

This isn’t just a blip on the radar. The cracks started showing earlier this year when the grassroots “Listen to Michigan” campaign encouraged voters to make protest votes during the state’s primary. And guess what? They did! The movement spread like wildfire to other liberal strongholds like Hawaii, Washington, and Minnesota. Now, we’re seeing the results at the convention, where these so-called “uncommitted” delegates are sending a strong message to the Democrat establishment: “We’re not with you!”

But that’s not all. The pro-Palestinian movement is gaining steam too. Just down the road from the DNC, they held a rally demanding the Democrats take a tougher stance on the Gaza conflict. Leading the charge was none other than Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who, as usual, had some pretty strong words. She told the crowd that if the U.S. really wants peace in Gaza, they should just stop sending weapons to Israel. Simple as that, according to her.

And these “Uncommitted” delegates aren’t just talking; they’re taking action. Washington state’s Yaz Kader and Sabrene Odeh voted “present” during the convention’s virtual roll call, making it clear they won’t support Harris unless she backs a ceasefire and stops sending weapons to Israel. Odeh even went so far as to say she cast her vote in memory of a 10-year-old girl who was tragically killed in Gaza.

But wait, there’s more! Over a dozen pro-Palestinian protesters were arrested in Chicago after they took to the streets outside the Israeli consulate. Even with police handcuffing participants, the chants for ending the war in Gaza didn’t stop. Meanwhile, the Democratic convention carried on inside, seemingly ignoring the chaos outside.

Tonight, the spotlight will be on Governor Tim Walz (D-MN), Harris’ running mate, as he takes the stage to give the keynote address. The convention is also trotting out the old guard—Bill Clinton and Nancy Pelosi—to talk about, you guessed it, January 6. But the real bombshell on the GOP side? Word on the street is that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is about to suspend his independent campaign and throw his weight behind none other than Donald J. Trump! Talk about a game-changer!

This convention is exposing the deep divisions within the Democratic Party. The rise of the “Uncommitted” movement and the reluctance of delegates to fully support Kamala Harris shows that the party is far from united. As we head toward the 2024 election, it’s clear that the Democrats are in for a bumpy ride.
