Bill Maher Calls Out CNN for Biased Coverage of Kamala Harris, Sparking Heated Exchange

In a fiery segment on HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher didn’t hold back as he challenged CNN’s Kaitlin Collins over her network’s glowing coverage of Vice President Kamala Harris’ Democratic National Convention speech. Maher, known for his blunt takes, pointed out what many conservatives have long believed: CNN leans heavily to the left, despite its claims of being fair and balanced.

Maher kicked things off by recalling a telling moment from Collins’ appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” When Colbert suggested that CNN just “reports the news,” the audience burst into laughter—a reaction that speaks volumes. Maher didn’t miss the irony, noting, “That tells you a lot, doesn’t it?”

Of course, Collins jumped to defend her network, insisting that CNN is a place where “both sides can watch” and pointing to her own show as evidence. She argued that they host lawmakers from both parties, from Elizabeth Warren to Ted Cruz, and that they challenge everyone equally.

But Maher wasn’t buying it. He referenced the overwhelming praise CNN heaped on Harris after her convention speech, leaving conservatives out in the cold. Maher pointed out that it took over an hour before the one conservative on the panel, Scott Jennings, finally got a word in. “From 8:09 to 11:23, they were just gushing about how great a speech [Kamala Harris delivered at the convention],” Maher said, adding that if he were a conservative watching CNN, he’d feel like the token opposition on the panel was just for show.

Collins, originally from deep-red Alabama, pushed back again, claiming that her show calls out “bullshit” from both sides. She even mentioned that her own conservative family, many of whom are Trump voters, trust her to be fair. But her past tells a different story. Before becoming CNN’s rising star, Collins worked at the conservative Daily Caller and wasn’t shy about criticizing the media’s reaction to Trump.

In a 2017 appearance on “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Collins accused the media of throwing a “royal tantrum” because they couldn’t control the narrative during Trump’s presidency. She pointed out that the press was a little “hysterical” over Trump’s frequent criticisms, famously calling them “fake news.”

So, as Maher rightly pointed out, CNN’s claim of being a neutral ground doesn’t quite hold up when you dig a little deeper. And as the 2024 election heats up, it’s clear that the media’s bias—whether it’s CNN or any other outlet—will be a hot topic. For conservatives, Maher’s segment was a refreshing reminder that the mainstream media isn’t fooling anyone.
