Trump Drops Major Announcement Ahead of Harris Debate, Hints At Big Moves If Things Get Unfair
Former President Donald Trump sat down with Sean Hannity on Fox News, giving a sneak peek of his approach to the upcoming debate with Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump hinted that if he feels the moderators at ABC aren’t being fair, his calm demeanor from the June debate with Joe Biden might be set aside for a more “different” approach.
During the June debate, Trump stayed cool, followed the time limits, and allowed the mic muting rules to control interruptions. This time, though, Trump suggested he could switch things up if the moderators show favoritism towards Harris.
Harris’ campaign, according to reports, pushed hard to change the debate rules, aiming to keep mics unmuted in hopes of triggering an “unhinged” reaction from Trump. They believe such a response could make him look bad to voters. But Trump’s team stood firm, keeping the original debate rules in place.
In his interview with Hannity, Trump left a window open for how he might handle the night, saying, “I could behave a little bit different” depending on how the ABC moderators handle the event.
Trump added some humor, reflecting on his debate history: “I let [Biden] talk… there are those that say Biden is smarter than [Harris]. And if that’s the case, we have a problem.”
“I’ve been in many debates. I think I’ve probably won because of debating,” Trump said. “You do remember the Rosie O’Donnell debate, right? That’s a real – she’s a real great one.”
But Trump was quick to point out that debates are unpredictable. He noted how strategies often shift in the moment, recalling a famous Mike Tyson quote, “Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face.”
Trump made it clear that his behavior will depend on the fairness of ABC’s moderators:
“So I could tell Sean exactly what I’m going to do, but, you know, things change. It depends a lot on ABC. Will they be fair or not? If they’re not going to be fair, I’m going to be a little bit different than if they are.”
In classic Trump fashion, he left viewers wondering what “a little bit different” might mean, but promised he’s ready for whatever happens:
“I hope they’re going to be fair. We’re putting a lot of reliance on a network which is known for being extremely hostile… to 75, 80 percent of the country.”
